We are incredibly proud to share that Karen Smeath from Blair House has been nominated for the UK Dementia Awards 2026 in the Creative Arts and Culture in Dementia category. It’s a truly special achievement and one that reflects the heart and dedication she brings to our home every single day.
Karen’s role as a Health Care Assistant is at the core of what she does, but her impact goes far beyond that. She naturally steps into creating meaningful activities for our residents, always thinking about how to bring more joy, engagement, and connection into their day.
What makes Karen stand out is the care and effort she puts in behind the scenes. Whether it’s spending time at home researching ideas or coming in on her days off to support events and celebrations, she goes the extra mile without hesitation. From themed quizzes to lively celebrations like St Patrick’s Day, Karen brings energy, creativity, and a real sense of fun that residents genuinely look forward to.
Her approach is simple but powerful — making sure every resident feels included, valued, and able to enjoy moments that matter to them. It’s this compassion and individuality in her work that makes such a difference to daily life at Blair House.
This nomination is a reflection of her dedication, and we couldn’t be happier to see her recognised on such a meaningful platform.
Karen, we are all so proud of you.
