Blair House GOOD CQC Rating
September 2019
Our Residential Home in St-Leonards-on-Sea Blair House was recently inspected by CQC and we are pleased to report that the home has been rated as GOOD.
The inspection lasted two days and gave the inspectors an insight in to the family orientated and person centred home from home ethos of Blair House.
The staff were praised within the report for the kind and caring way in which they treated the residents with dignity with it saying “People told us they were treated with kindness. They said that they were respected, and their dignity was maintained. One person said staff were, "100% kind." Another told us, "They're nice, there's not a 'them and us' feeling. They're totally accessible." Staff spoke about people with affection. One staff member said, "They're like my extended family." Another staff member told us, "I treat everyone as though they are my family, I can't stop thinking about people when I'm not at work. Its hard work but I love it." There was a relaxed feeling at the home. There were sociable conversations happening throughout the day.”
Since the last inspection the home has developed their leisure and social programme, the variety and frequency were one of the positive elements of the report.
The report also praised the home’s manager and staff saying that “
The registered manager and staff had created a positive culture at Blair House. They were approachable and available to people. People told us they were happy living at the home. Cheney House Manager Challenges Dental Services in Care Homes!
May 2018
Regal Care Trading’s Residential Community Cheney House Registered Manager Paula Munday recently tackled the issue of the lack of Dentistry Services that are willing to make home visits.
Paula spoke to carehome.co.uk to tell them about the short fall in services and that despite having contacted numerous Dental practices most refused claiming that they are not trained in Dementia. When she did find dentists willing to come to the home then she was faced with an extortionate charge.
Frustrated by the lack of professional interest in the residents dental care Paula wrote to her local MP Andrea Leadson, the MP for Northamptonshire South to express her frustration and concern and whether she could help support her in her quest to improve the services for those living in Residential or Nursing Care.
Paula has been the manager of Cheney House for 3 years but has been with the group for the past 13 years. A manager with a proven sense of dedication to provide person centred and holistic services,
Paula has felt impassioned to shine a light in this short falling and ‘lack of support’ from the Dental Profession.
Paula told Carehome.co.uk that if GP’s, District Nurses, Optician’s and other members of the multidisciplinary teams visit care homes, then why to Dentist not? She also highlighted in the article that residents living in a care setting would be asked to pay for a dental service and yet those living with Dementia in the local community would be funded by the NHS.
Paula told Carehome.co.uk that “We’ve never paid for a dentist before. Dentists may refuse to come but I can’t imagine a GP refusing to visit an older person because they have dementia. Staff here help residents with teeth brushing twice a day and also if requested after meals, but inspectors obviously want to know a dentist is visiting residents.
"If inspectors ask us how we can detect potential issues such as mouth cancer, it’s a matter of having a dentist who can visit.”
Ms Leadson responded to Paula’s letter confirming that she had written to Jeremy Hunt to ask him to answer the Cheney House managers concerns at the short falling in the NHS service.
Paula is awaiting a response from her concerns and will continue to seek answers as she is dedicated and determined to ensure that the residents who live at Cheney House receive the best care and services available.

Regal Care Trading's The New Era!
1/06/2016
In April 2015 a new era began for Regal Care Trading Ltd when new owner Kan Rajakanthan took over the helm with a strong and clear business strategy to move the company forward putting, the care of our Residents and the homes and communities that they live in central.
An already experienced and successful Care Home Provider of 12 homes in the South East, Mr Rajakanthan has spent the last year putting in to action the business strategy with the start of a vast rejuvenation, renovation and redevelopment of the Regal Care Trading homes. We have already seen extensive redecoration, redesign and new furnishings in a number of our homes.
The new owner has also brought on board a new Operations Director, Sarah Dean (RGN) and a new senior management team; Jacqui Gregg (RGN) Southern Manager, Glenda Baker (RGN) Northern Manager and Tracy D'arvigny Area Manager.
With the guidance of Mr Rajakanthan, the new Senior Management have established and implemented a more centralised vision for the structure of the company with new and stronger ethoses. So far it has seen improvements in all areas and our quality- monitoring audits carried out with our residents, family and staff show that the centralisation is working and propelling the company in to a new era.
A high standard and a person centred ethos of care is now one of the central strengths of Regal Care Trading Ltd
The importance of this type of care is recognised throughout the care industry and our aim is to provide positive person centred and rewarding care in all of our homes.
The reality of person centred care is achieved through our new company initiatives such as "Resident of the Day" our Leisure and Lifestyle Services and tailored staff training.
We have recentralised our training programme for our care staff team across the company putting in place a comprehensive and extensive training matrix through all departments. Thus ensuring that we are always striving towards providing a high standard of person centred care throughout our homes.
Our other company ethos are the 6 C’s; Adopting the 6 C’s and embedding them into the heart of the homes has meant that we are a more cohesive and effective team. Care, Compassion, Courage, Commitment, Competence and Communication carry many different meanings within the care setting; it has also meant that we now have a central value to focus on.

Activity Provision is a central part of our residents and Day Care resident’s lives. We are dedicated to enabling and encouraging the residents to lead an activity based lifestyle. Through supporting our residents to make choices from the time they wake up to the time they go to sleep is encouraging an activity based way of care.
We strive to ensure that our residents; feel appreciated, at all times treated with sensitivity and respect and with an acknowledgement of their own psychological and emotional needs. We encourage and nurture positive and rewarding social relationships whilst acknowledging that our residents are unique individuals.
Part of our Manifesto is our NAPA (National Association for Providers of Activities for Older People) membership. As a member we will be working with them in a shared ethos and commitment to ensure that
'Activity is at the heart of care for older people'
