A regular event in our homes are our resident forums/meetings where we get together and talk about the homes and where our residents and staff can make suggestions. These are always really useful as we can plan trips and events.
We always like to have excursions out and about especially in the summer to local parks, zoo’s, castle and local musical events.
However recently during June’s resident meeting at our Residential home Alpine in Sevenoaks one of their resident’s Mrs Stearman made the suggestion about bringing the beach to the home instead of going to the beach.
So this is what the team at Alpine did and now have their very own Beach complete with deckchairs, sand, windbreaks, buckets and spades, ice creams and lollies for the residents to enjoy whenever they want!
Alpine’s manager Kim said, ‘It has been a real team effort with everyone getting involved from fundraising for the deck chairs, to staff member’s families and residents families getting involved. We had the sand donated and the frame for the beach was made by relatives of one of our residents. It all came together quite quickly, which was important for us once Mrs Stearman had made the suggestion. Fortunately for us the weather has been wonderful so now that the Beach is complete we’ve been out every day enjoying it. Even those residents who don’t normally enjoy going out in the garden are now loving beach life’
The brains behind the idea Mrs Stearman has also really enjoyed her idea, Kim said ‘She’s loved going out there, socialising and enjoying a refreshment or two in the sun!’
